Checkout Girl
When the sergeant asked me if I wouldn’t mind comin’ down town
Like I fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down
And the people in the town are talking, rumors are beginning to swirl…
‘bout me and the Checkout girl
Everybody’s rooting for you, but what if you fail?
There’s a frenzy in the market place, someone ran off with the scale
And the taxi driver turns the radio up as he waits for the tale to
unfurl
‘Bout me and the checkout girl
Don’t you know that sometimes
Even some a the best lines fail?
Somewhere on a back road,
even some of the best know that
gimme some time, gimme some time, I’ve got no time, no time…
I’ve been known, to leave my key in the lock
Sometimes I’m not the sharpest pencil in the box
But I’ll meet her at the bar tonight, I will
I’ll just sit on my stool and twirl
Just me and the checkout girl….
